Tox Trooper – colour scheme test

Here's a quick and crude paint scheme for the Tox Troopers. Lots of drybrushing, washes, glazing and highlights.

I can't wait to get the tripod mech/walker finished and cast for these guys.

  1. I wouldn't call your work on the model crude at all. Very nice blend of techniques which give a stunning finish to the model. Great work!

    1. Hum... is that base custom-made or is it a resin base that you can purchase somewhere? Really liking it and the colours you used on it.

  2. Love the paintjob here, well done. Just the right degree of roughness in the colors and and transition for such a model. If I were you I'd consider adding a spot color. A strong color that will be repeated on all the models. That would make every single mini pop, as they are slightly monochrome and would also tie all the models together. The lens in the helmet being the obvious choice here I think. Orange, red or blue would all work, especially if you added some OSL - it's not as hard as it seems.

Could I also suggest, your first tutorial on the website being about sculpting hoods - I can for the love of God not make it work really well, and you obviously can. Feel free to do it right away and post it here instead of waiting for the website to get steamrolling ;)

  3. Thanks folks, the paint scheme has grown one me - most importantly painting up 20 of them should be relatively fast. I've done OSL before but it's not my thing these days

That's a custom base - I never use precast bases or anything I much prefer to scratch build.

The next mold will be Techno Communion and I've got three hoods to sculpt for it, I'll try and do a tutorial as I go along.

  5. I absolutely love these models! They are perfect to accompany my 'heroic scale' space warriors and they size up in comparison brilliantly.
    More tox troopers please :)

  6. Nice. Give me a couple of months and I'll have a mold made with a heavy weapon team, a tripod mech and some command models.
