Atheros Undead: Wraith Hoplites and Skeleton Warriors

Some test casts have arrived: Undead hoplites.

I'll be painting these up soon to see how they handle before cleaning the master casts for a production mould (and I'll likely make up some alternatives with head and weapon swaps for variety.

Tentatively aiming to get 4 wraiths and 6 swordsmen in the mould - the shields take up a lot of space. If I'm lucky I'll squeeze in 8 swordsmen.

Masters. Hoplites and Techno Communion

Cleaning up master casts is quite a time consuming effort.

First I give them a short dunk in warm soapy water followed by a light brush with a toothbrush to get all the mould release agents off. Usually the release agent is powder.

Then I set to work with a set of small files and a scalpel blade removing all the mould lines and any imperfections. They need to be completely perfect.

Then it's another soapy water bath and brush to remove the filing and shavings, and I'm done - final set of masters ready for production moulds.

I just need to add the Spartan helmets to a little sprue and make 14 spears and I'm good to go....

Back by popular demand too, the Techno Communion will get another run!

Soon as these are in the post to the mould maker I need to put together an actual web store...

Red Hoplites

These miniatures are plastic Victrix hoplites, combined with my own metal heads and arms. Hopefully I'll be able to offer some for sale this summer but if you want some now, drop me a comment below.

And above, my metal heads on the plastic Victrix archers!

Greek Mythology - conversion parts coming in metal

I know doing aftermarket conversion parts for Games Workshop miniatures is most peoples gateway into sculpting... but what about conversion parts for historical miniatures?

Pretty common I'm sure.

I've previously mentioned my love of all things Victrix. Regular readers will also be aware of my mythology sculpts taking shape.

I really don't think there's much need for the basic hoplites... there's a few plastic kits out there from a couple of manufacturers (they do want for some dynamic poses but I'll take care of that soon). What I did want to see though was fantastical helmets and weapons that I could use on all those plastics...

Here's a few early stage snaps of my metals parts in action. More to follow. Comment below if you are interested in getting your hands on some.

And as a closing statement - buy Victrix. They are amazing!
