Afterlife Null-Zone #1 - trooper thumbnails

I'm learning digital sculpting, and my pals at Anvil Industry are kindly hosting me at the studio in London for some training this week.

Here are some ideas I'm taking along. This was a free for all idea session, I could have done another 4 pages like this (I may still yet). I'll talk through the ideas with Anvil's creative director and hopefully take some elements from these to the next stage of design.

More on this project soon. Exciting times.

Karkadann assault armour - Fallen Dwarves

Here's the initial ideas for Karkadann armour, Fallen Dwarf style.

No laughing please, I've not committed enough time to develop in the digital art space!

Thematically this is heavy linebreaker assault cavalry. I've consciously gone for a larger mount for the Dwarves instead of the usual pony/goat/pig cavalry trope associated with the race.

I'm still undecided so more sketches are required, though I think the large crossbow mount is off the table... in favor of a huge crossbow towed along on it's own carriage by the beast.

Metal Detected

Check all of this out, just arrived today. I spent about an hour cleaning it all up with an old toothbrush and soapy water to remove the mold release powder.

The thing that's great about doing this as a hobby and not having to care about seeking profits is that you get free reign to do whatever you want! Contained within this lot of casts are some personal items that I've made purely for myself (for now):

  • Clockpunk conversion parts (for use with my own sculpts AND Victrix Napoleonic plastics.) Lots of arms and heads. Also, 80 zombie conversion sprues, zombie head and arms, destined for some plastic Napoleonic infantry.)

  • Ancient Greek conversion parts (for use with my own sculpts AND Victrix Ancient Greek plastics.) Lots of cooler heads and arms with swords! Also some shields of my own design.

  • And a variety of dollies for future use...

Oh here's a design for an alien mutant range I intend to make, dollies for them somewhere in that metal mess above...

Tox Troopers - design work

Another couple of designs I've done with marker on bleed proof paper. They'll be touched up digitally in the future for use in an 'official' capacity.

As with my previous post these will probably be realised in 6mm first but I'll create rough 28mm scale mock ups.

[I've settled on these being a semi aquatic species]

Imperial Borderers - Support concepts

Here's some of my ideas for expanding the Imperial Borderer line – very much Diesel punk I think.

I'm building some 28mm scale mock ups at the moment but I'll probably realise these in 6mm (for sale) first.

Medium is markers on bleed proof paper. I'm really inspired by 70's & 80's sci-fi film and tv concept art and want to use this for all vehicle and ship designs I do.

These still need touched up digitally (before I use them in any 'official' capacity) but no harm in sharing them now.

High Elves

As much a practice paint as a chance to work out how my elves might look, of I ever get round to sculpting them... don't hold your breath.

Imperial Borderer reinforcements - design sketches

Borderer Pigeoneer!

Life in the border lands of helot prime is usually a mundane agricultural existence. Pigeon breeding and racing is one of the most popular pastimes in the countryside (compared to the cities where the vicious guard dog cherub drones that roost in the spires of the churches of Tzar devour all other avian life).

In the occult war the Borderer's use pigeons as a means of cheap and easy communication or reconnaissance (with the appropriate photographic equipment attached).

Alternatively pigeons are also used as living controlled bombs. Cerebral interfaces are wired into the pigeon and an explosive charge is strapped to it's chest, and the controller is able to steer and guide the pigeon into enemy positions where it is finally detonated.
